Following Christ's own example, we seek to involve ourselves in the lives of those in need, through our denominational mission programs, as well as through local ministries. Our faith calls us to work where others feel separation, and we are committed to proclaiming God's demand for justice for all creation.
The designated ministries of our church include:
- Birmingham Children's Choir
- Presbyterian Home for Children
- First Light Women and Children's Shelter
- Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity
- Angel Food Ministries
We also promote the Community Garden ministry sponsored by one of our sister Churches, Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church. Read more about this ministry on their website.
In addition, our Session (church governing body) works in the
following areas:
- Worship
- Education for adults, youth and children
- Discipleship, which includes outreach and stewardship
- Membership care
- Prayer groups and prayer ministry
- Foundations of ministry, which includes finances, building care
MOMS
Moms Offering Moms Support gathers at the church on the last
Friday of every month at 9:30 a.m. for a one-hour planning meeting.
About 20 to 25 stay-at-home mothers bring their children – infants
to pre-schoolers – to church. The moms plan supportive activities
for the following month while they rotate child care in the church
nursery. The group organizes play groups, field trips, and kids’
crafts. They maintain a recipe club and a book club, and they take
on a variety of service projects.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is open to anyone interested in
exploring needle crafts: knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch,
needlepoint, quilting, and any other kind of “hand work.” The
group’s meetings will feature “lightweight" Bible study and good,
old-fashioned Christian fellowship. The meetings are on the second
and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Creative Memories Faithbooking
Faithbooking turns a scrapbooking hobby into an outreach
ministry of the church – helping participants to make the link
between “what God has done for humankind through Christ” and “what
God has done for me and my family.” The meetings are held on the
Second Saturday of each month from 2–10 p.m. You don’t need to stay
for ‘the duration,’ especially if you just want to come and see what
it’s all about. Otherwise, if you want to jump in, just bring a
shoebox full of pictures and go to work!” There is no cost for
observers but participants staying the full eight hours pay a $10
refreshment fee that includes dinner. Resources for scrapbook work
are provided, at a cost, by Creative Memories.
Men's Breakfast
The Men's Breakfast is held on the third Sunday of each month at
8:00 a.m. It is an opportunity for the men of the church to
come together prior to the Worship Service to discuss various
topics, and participate in Bible study and training programs.
Breakfast is only $3, and child care is provided.
