PASTOR   The Reverend Joe Genau   [he/him]
Joe was born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y. He took a bus, a ferry, and two subway lines to get to high school. Joe earned a B.A. in Politics from Brandeis University, located in the suburbs of Boston and a Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 2007. He spent several years working as a hospital chaplain in Chicago before moving to Birmingham, where he served as a chaplain at Children's of Alabama before being called to Edgewood Presbyterian Church.

Joe was installed as EPC's Pastor in 2014, bringing a unique mix of nerdy justice-oriented preaching, humor-filled teaching, strong gifts for pastoral care, and energetic leadership. He's most popular with the kids and youth, but their grandparents seem to like him quite a bit as well. As part of his responsibilities as Pastor, Joe directs our Youth Group, with the help of some amazing volunteers.

Pastor Joe works hard to serve our denomination, particularly our Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley, through various committee assignments and leadership on projects. He'll happily buy you coffee and ramble on for an hour about those responsibilities. Joe can usually be found in his Pastor's Study, having lunch with colleagues and congregants, showing up for rallies and marches, attending meetings, or watching baseball.

You can contact Joe by email at pastor@edgewoodpc.org or by calling or texting him at 205.718.9832. He's a goofball, but he's our goofball.

While she served as choral director there, choir members participated in two mass choir performances at Carnegie Hall. NURSERY   Rose Finkelstein
"Cousin" Rose Finkelstein was raised in Opp, Alabama. She accepted the call as caregiver of our nursery in 2004. Rose states it best:
"My love for children began at an early age growing up in Opp, Alabama. Although I was never blessed with any children of my own, God has truly blessed me richly with many wonderful, loving angel babies, especially since I came to Edgewood Presbyterian in June 2004. This has been my blessing of a lifetime."
